Cheers guys! Given that my degree finished last Monday and my b'day is today (sunday) the 'celebrations' have sort of become scattered throughout the next week or so. Going out for a meal on Thursday next week and meeting a friend in London next Friday. All in all been a very nice enjoyable weekend. Job hunting begins on Monday though. Could take some time.... _________________

I'm thinking mathematics and economics / finance - anything from stockbroking to investment analyst, actuary, data analyst. It's where the 'proper' salaries are!
That said, I'm also toying with the idea of a PhD in maths or physics starting this time next year. Possibly even at the Max Planck Institute in Germany - I used to live on the continent and wouldn't mind going back again. I only have until the end of this year to make up my mind.
Decisions, decisions.... _________________

Can't help you there I'm afraid!
Sounds like you know what you want to do, which is good news.
If you've already been on the continent for work, it may be an idea to return there. Not that we don't love having you over here ( ) but I'd say the opportunities for university leavers over here these days are limited and hard-fought for. Obviously it's a very personal decision. _________________ Julian

I used to live in Holland and Germany when I was a kid but never worked over there. I'm only too aware of the difference in the quality of life and the cost of living. In fact, if only there was a way of taking all 450 odd sheds from this country and planting them firmly in Germany I'd be over there in a second! (You think I'm joking, don't you...?) _________________

Go and get a job with HGK (Hafen- und Guterverkehr Köln), then. They've got sheds aplenty....
There's more to life than money, anyway. As long as you've enough to be nice and comfortable (which means about 30-40k/year here in the UK), anything more just involves too much stress.
Strikes me that nowadays (starting from ground level, rather than for inherited wealth) you can be rich or you can be happy. The two seem to be mutually incompatible |
