I have just finished making a list of everything I can see which needs doing to the model body. Quite a list! But I always find making a list by studying drawings and photographs a good thing as it is then unlikely you will miss something off! Also a good way to organise the work and add details in a logical order.

I normally work along the same lines. Each new model, or even just a detailing job will have a big list of things to do. Even if it seems obvious, I`ll list it!

Some of the items on 'the list' have been added, like cab and front steps, handrails/grabs.

Good to see some progress! Do you use a jig for the grab-rails?

No, just folded the first one around a suitable drill bit, then did the other three and bent the turn-in end on the first then did the rest the same size.

This is the locomotive I bought as a chassis donor for the 362, but the bogie wheelbase is a foot too short although the overall wheelbase is about right. The bogies are not quite the right design and as the model runs superbly, these Italian E.655's do run into Ljubljana Zalog yards, and I do really like them, I decided this would run on the layout as the visiting FS loco.

A shot of the body with turned brass 'porthole' rims fitted. These were simply made by parting off sections of brass tube in the lathe.

With the E.655 not being used, I decided to make a pattern for a correct 36mm wheelbase bogie sideframe and cast six in resin. The picture shows the pattern (top) and the first casting off the mould (below).

There are ten sections of grilles on one side of the loco., so I made a brass pattern and have made a mould. I will be casting some today, also some small bits like the sandboxes and small grilles near a porthole.

After a revamp of my website, including filenames, I just went through this topic to edit the photo links.

The work on the 362 has stopped whilst I have been busy building the layout. progress can be found on the website News page. I have Slovenian-ised the name. Cool This has been given the ok by some Slovenian forum members. Smile

Thought I should update the progress on the 362.

The bogies:

The chassis frame has been made in two halves, pivoting on the centre bogie.
Wiring is temporary as after testing it will be fitted with a DCC decoder.

The body halves have been pressed onto the chassis to test clearances. The cab steps will have to be adjusted as the bogie frame just touches them on my tightest curves causing the bogie to derail. The sandboxes have been fitted and the frames painted.

The body sections are now fitted and the bellows section is the original one narrowed slightly. A DCC decoder has been installed.
Roof vents, side grilles, cab air-con units and pantographs are fitted.

Many more fittings to add, such as roof insulators and bars, buffer beam details, snowploughs, cab interiors, lighting, various cabling/pipework, etc.

The 362 has hauled it's first train, although it is still in grey primer, missing some detalis and has no catenary!
The first trials were successful, so further detailing will now take place.

Excellent. Good to see some people still working on their layouts. Hate to say it but I haven't been near mine in a very long time.

Thanks guys. Cool

I do pick my prototypes! Absolutely nothing is available off the shelf for SZ locos. - but I am a scratchbuilder by choice, so I very much enjoy creating these models. Very Happy
