I've just received the Aug issue of Railways illustrated and one photo intreged me. For any of you with the mag it's on page 11 but shows 31454 with an inspection saloon passing sleaford north junction (coming off a single track banch ?).
Protecting the junction is an home signal but the track appears to be completely overgrown. The left hand track appears to in use.
Does anyone know this location ? If the line is disussed it's unusal nowadays for associated signalling to remain. Anyone know the reason ???

Just down the road (or line) from me. Very Happy

Freight trains on the joint line used to use the Sleadford avoiding line, double track, with just stopping passenger trains going into Sleadford. The other end of the avoider is another box.

The line going into Sleaford from both ends was also double track, but has been singled for some time. The southbound track on ther avoider is still used occasionally for chartes and diverted freights, but the northbound is not used, hence the vegetation. I guess the only way ther northbound would be reinstated is if there were a number of regular freights booked on the joint.

I used to have some pictures around the junction, but think I lost them during a computer change. Must go get some more. Wink
