I can't imagine what specifically it is, but is the D125 a reference to a signal? Signals all seem to have a letter-number combination so maybe this is something to do with signal number D125, wherever that happens to be?

I have been told by a railway employee that it may have something to do with APT runs on the WCML.....

??

Is it from an APT? Maybe one of the floor panels or undercarriage panels from somewhere along the unit?

Is it referring to 125 Miles from London. and it is a Marker on the down side?

that THING is a transponder that told the APT what the enhanced line speed was at that point, the D is for a diverging junction and the 125 is the speed in MPH

TRA at Crewe have several - I mounted one on the track infront of the APT-P
