Your chance to name a junction

Want to become part of railway history? Here's your chance to name a junction on the Glasgow Airport Rail Link and raise money for Cancer Research UK in the process.

The Glasgow Airport Rail Link, due to begin construction in 2008, will provide a fast, frequent service to and from the centre of Glasgow direct to Glasgow Airport terminals. Network Rail needs to install a new junction that will connect the airport link line directly to the Paisley Corridor. The junction needs a name and there's a competition to choose it.

If you want to enter, complete the entry form and send it in with a cheque for £10 by Wednesday, 22 August 2007. All details are on the form.

The names entered will be put into a draw and the winner will be drawn on Friday,
31 August 2007. All money raise will go to Cancer Research UK .

Link information

The Glasgow Airport Rail Link Parliamentary Bill was approved by Members of the Scottish Parliament, and received Royal Assent in January. Construction will begin in 2008 and is expected to be complete by the end of 2011.

The rail link will provide a rail service every 15 minutes between Glasgow Central station and the airport. The journey will take 16 minutes making one brief stop at Paisley Gilmour Street .

It uses existing railway line between Glasgow Central and Paisley Gilmour Street, with track upgrade work from Shields Junction to Arkleston Junction to reinstate a third track. A new 2km branch line will be built from near Paisley St James Station to the airport. The electrified, double-track line will be built mainly on viaduct with some embankment.

Name a junction competition
Want to become part of railway history? Here's your chance to name the new junction on the Glasgow Airport Rail Link and raise money for Cancer Research UK in the process.

This competition was originally launched in June 2007, however, the committee has decided to extend the invitation to participate until Friday 14 December 2007. So, come on all you budding railway enthusiasts and come up with a great new name for the junction to be laid for the new Glasgow Airport train service.

The Glasgow Airport Rail Link, due to begin construction in 2008, will provide a fast, frequent service to and from the centre of Glasgow direct to Glasgow Airport terminals. Network Rail needs to install a new junction that will connect the airport link line directly to the Paisley Corridor.

The junction needs a name and we want YOU to choose it.

All you need to do to enter is complete the entry form and send it in with a cheque for £10 by Friday, 14 December 2007. All details are on the form. And if you want to spread the cost, why not get a syndicate of your colleagues together in multiples of 2, 4, 5 or 10?

The names entered will be put into a draw and the winner will be drawn on Friday, 21 December 2007. There are Marks & Spencer voucher prizes of £50, £20 and £10 to the first three names drawn and, of course, the winner's junction name will be announced at the same time.

All money raised will go to Cancer Research UK . So get your thinking hats on and come up with a great new name!
