It has been on local news that for Glasgow's 2014 Commonwealth Games bid, SPT (Strathclyde Partnership for Transport) are expanding the the underground network. The original circle which served the west end of Glasgow since 1896 and upgraded in 1979 will be joined by a second circle serving the east end. The most notible place is Barrowfield, a suburb of Glasgow (as this is where Commonwealth Village is proposed to be). It will be using existing tunnels which have been there since the days of the Caledonian Railway. Final price hasn't been set yet.

I will keep you informed as I get more info.

It won't matter what the quoted price of the work is. The final cost of the project will excede any quote given.

No much point as it will change but SPT have said refurbisment to stations and replace the rolling stock will cost £270 million and the new east end circle will cost £2.3 billion probably increase to £23 billion when they burst that sewage pipe or realise a tunnel has been filled in or something.
