Had quite a loco-packed day in Kent today, not including 37059/609 on 1Q14 which I was unable to see. Firstly I went to Paddock Wood where I saw 66098 l/e and three minutes later saw 66703 dragging 73205/209/212/213 through. Both were heading for Hoo Junction via the Medway Valley Line. I then went to Tonbridge where i saw 31285, 66715/718 and 73107/141/201/207 stabled in the West Yard.

Nice. The 73s were always one of my favourite locos.

Updated my site with a single photo of 60009, taken today at Lenham, Kent. Was quite lucky to see it as the train it was working (normally 02.20 Acton Yard-Hothfield) was running quite late. It later left Acton Yard at 08.45 after a loco change and passed me at Lenham at 11.40.

Visited the Great Central Railway (Loughborough) Steam Railway Gala yesterday which was fantastic.

Severn locos were in use during my visit including 60163 Tornado, 70013 Oliver Cromwell, 850 Lord Nelson, 5690 Leander, 78019, 63601 and 4141. I got photos of all these as well as various other locos such as Farburn 2-6-4T 42085, various diesels and 4-CIG EMU 7059.

Both videos feature passenger trains, freight trains and TPO demonstrations with the locos travelling at speed Very Happy

Enjoy Smile

33116 and the 4CIG would look good pushing and pulling up and down the line. I don't claim to be an expert in the Southern Electric but isn't it a 4BIG? The 2nd vehicle is a buffet is it not?

Did you see / get any pictures of the Iarnrod Eireann MK 1 Steam Generator Vans?

You are correct, I will amend the caption.

This is what I found on wikipedia...

Quote:
"'Phase 2' "Greyhound" unit 1393, a former 4Big unit, is preserved on the Great Central Railway. It is operated in push-pull mode with the line's Class 33 locomotive, this unit became the first 4-CIG in preservation to operate in Push/Pull move with the lines Class 33, D6535 (33116).. A BIG buffet car has arrived from Coventry Rly Centre and displaced the CEP TSO, recreating a BIG again"

Sounds like it was a 4-BIG then became a 4-CIG and again is now a 4-BIG unit going by the above information but I've noticed that the 4-BIG carries the number 7059, a number that no 4-BIGs ever recieved because the last one built was numbered 7058. Looking in the Preserved Units section of this wikipedia page (

) the unit is appears to be a fomer 4-CIG unit which formally carried the numbers 7396, 1296, 2258 and 1393 during the past. Perhaps it carried the number 7059 because it has three vehicles from one unit and one from another? The buffet car is from unit 7053/2205. I'm a bit confused Laughing

I saw three of the Iarnrod Eireann MK 1 Steam Generator Vans but I didn't get any photos of them.

Interesting! Yeah I remember seeing one of those 4 CIG's with the CEP TSO storming through Weybridge one evening back in 2002 while I was waiting for the 4 VEP on the Cherstey shuttle.

I also seem to recall a good night in the student bar of Royal Holloway University and nearly freezing to death on the walk back to where I was staying (next to Egham Station). Embarassed left the jacket at home. Also being woken up at about 0730 on the Sunday morning by the EE507 traction motors on a 455 with a serious hangover to boot!

So much has changed on the SWT network in those 6 years.

Updated my site with just one photo taken today at Lancing, on the Brighton-Portsmouth West Coastway route. The photo is of 66705 and 66702 top and tailing an engineers rain from Brighton Lovers Walk to Eastleigh.

The wagons that the locos were top and tailing were loaded with scrap material which had mainly come from rolling stock that had just recently been cut up. They were outside/inside the old pullman shed at Brighton, which was destined to be a museum but sadly never happened. The old shed is to be demolished soon.

It's a shame they are going to pull the old shed down. You must get some photos of it before they do demolish it.

It is a shame, shame that the museum project never took place. There will be a re-run of the engineers train that ran Monday/Wednesday this week on Monday 20th/Wednesday 22nd so I might go to Brighton or Hove for it and try and get some shots of the building from a bridge that crosses the mainline. Hopefully a pair of EDs will produce on this re-run. The one that wook place this week was originally booked for top and tailed 73s not top and tailed bloody sheds! Laughing

Updated my site with a photo of ex SWT 73201 at St Leonards Depot from 16/10 and also a couple of photos of DBSO 9702 and Pink 31601 at Chart Leacon, Ashford running over 120 minutes late on 4Q10 Selhurst-Dollands Moor SERCO from today.

Went to the Bluebell Railway yesterday for their Somerset & Dorset themed Autumn Steam Gala which featured 5 locos in use (was meant to be 6 but visiting Jinty 47493 failed Evil or Very Mad). A few of the out of ticket locos were shunted out of the shed and outside on display allowing people to get shots of them. The 5 locos in use were visiting 7F no. 58309, visiting Large Prairie no. 5199, U class no. 1638, O1 class no. 65 and Standard 4MT Tank no. 80151.
