During our visit in 1998, a freightcar derailed on the tight curve at Caliente completely blocking the Tehachapi Pass for several hours. We had a chat with the gary Davidson, Union Pacific Superintendent in charge, and he said we would have a ball when the line reopened as trains were backed up all the way to LA one way and San Francisco the other!
This is the aftermath and the first trains getting underway.
