Another clip from the converted VHS video from 1992. This time in Sierre/Siders which is just down the mountain in the Rhone valley from where we were staying.

It still hasn't, not to anything like the extent it has over here...
They sometimes insist on HV vests (for example, when visiting depots), and hard hats are making an appearance, but that seems to be about as far as it goes. And they don't bother with ID armbands for trackside staff the way we do - the only thing you'll notice is that the lookouts wear an obviously Swiss hat!
They do have a track safety handbook (which is even printed in English!), which you can download at

Very informative. Like the hat as well.
I might try to get one next time I'm there "officially" (i.e. stewarding a charter rather than just playing trains). Be amusing to see the look on the boss's face if I turned up to work wearing it!
